Pre school (3- 5 years) Grant available

Our pre school room

We hope that the ‘pre-school’ environment that we have created will help to make the transition from nursery to school a gentle and positive experience for both you and your child. The pre – school children are based on the first floor of the building and have access to two rooms throughout their day at nursery. We can have up to 16 preschoolers with a ratio of 1:8.

The quiet room/ library

This room provides a cushioned seating area with large comfy floor cushions, computer, TV and DVDs, music, board games and puzzles. The ‘cosy’ corner is filled with a wide variety of story and reference books to encourage your child to explore the world of language and literature. The children can also engage in constructive play including bricks, Lego, Duplo, interstar, popoids and brio mecano. The children can join in with table top games and puzzles, share within various floor play activities and work in pairs on our child friendly computer games.

The early learning/ home room

In here the children are provided with structured learning for reading, writing and numeracy. These activities are carried out to suit every child’s individual stage of development, through a wide range of activities each day, such as singing, games and stories. Activities are developed in groups or on a one-to-one basis with their key worker. This room also offer craft and messy opportunities such as, model making with play-dough, clay, cardboard, paper and glue; experimenting with sand and water, marbling, painting, baking as well as table top activities such as drawing, colouring, chalking, tracing, cutting and much more.

This room provides the children with an abundance of play opportunities through direct experience. The home corner is a haven for imaginative play such as dressing up, puppet shows, and role-play in our pretend shop, dental hospital, doctors, hairdressers and many more fantastic role play area ideas. The list of activities used at group times is endless but here is a selection of some of our regulars; news time, tumble tots, alphabet work, number work, singing, stories, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, patterns, shapes and colours.

All children are taught by experienced and qualified sports coaches, that are enhanced CRB- checked along with having child protection certification. The classes are unique, fun and fast moving that encourages the children to participate in a variety of sports. We believe that by getting involved in multi-sports children will discover new skills that improve their balance, hand and eye co-ordination, feet and eye co-ordination, make new friends, and develop their self confidence.

Transition from our setting to school

Our nursery cares for children up until they go to School. The pre-school staff keep developmental records for each child and regular progress records to pass on when they go to school. Leading up to before the children leave to reception, the staff will talk to the children about going to school, and how exiting it will be. They are very positive about the move, and reassure the children that there is nothing to worry about and school is a nice place where big boys and girls go. The staff may do some activities or read stories linked to school, and prepare them as much as possible. Children are encouraged to share any concerns or worries they may have, and these issues are discussed with them. Staff will also offer their support to parents who may also be worried about their child’s transition to school. Staff offer their knowledge and advice and are a friendly face to talk to.
