Menu - Healthy eating policy
At Springwood Nursery School we recognize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and diet and understand that establishing a balanced diet in childhood helps establish healthy eating habits for life .In order for us all to meet our full potential we need to be healthy and fit-physically, mentally and socially. We provide varied and well-balanced meals which are low in salt, sugar and saturated fat and high in fibre and vitamins. The average week’s menu includes 2 vegetarian meals with 1 each of fish, poultry and meat. We purchase organic fruit, vegetables and milk whenever possible. We are more than happy to cater for any religious, cultural or special dietary requirements you may have for your child.
The nursery operates a 3 week rota so there are a wide variety of meals and puddings on offer, if after a few times, a large majority of the children do not eat a certain meal, the nursery manager and the cook will sit together and discuss replacing the dish.
Unlike other nurseries in and around Warrington, we serve a home cooked/hot tea so you can be sure your child isn’t going hungry!
Breakfast is served from 7.45am to 9.00am, a fresh fruit snack at 10.00am, lunch at 11.30am and tea from 3.30pm. Water and milk are supplied at all meals and throughout the day as requested. To maintain healthy teeth we do not include juice at any time.
We feel mealtimes are also a social occasion where staff and children sit together and talk about eating healthy and staff will encourage your child to try new foods and to finish their meal before pudding is served. From as early as possible, your child will be encouraged to be independent and have freedom of choice. By feeding them selves or choosing from a selection of fruit at snack or vegetables at lunch time.
